Join the Queer Commune on expanding their E-wok village in Nevada City this summer! Sign up for our treehouse workshops on the second and third week of July! immerse yourself and get hands on experience building a tree supported structure, net lounge and zip-line across a glorious pond!

This course is designed for outdoor enthusiasts, DIY homeowners, aspiring builders, and anyone who loves trees and building community. 

Our expert-led workshop is 4 days / 3 nights. We will be combining theoretical lessons with practical application. Come build community while  learning the skills and tools you’ll need to begin designing your dream treehouse !

What you’ll learn

Whether you're dreaming of a backyard retreat or considering a career in unique outdoor structures, this workshop will provide you with the foundation to bring your treehouse visions to life.

  1. Photogrammetry and LiDAR 3D Scans: Learn to use cutting-edge technology for capturing accurate 3D representations of trees and environments, enhancing planning and design processes.

  2. Treehouse Design Considerations: Explore the principles of treehouse design, including aesthetics, functionality, and how to harmonize structures with their natural surroundings.

  3. Engineering Fundamentals: Gain insights into the engineering aspects of treehouses, including load distribution, structural integrity, and material selection.

  4. Safety Protocols: Familiarize yourself with industry-standard safety practices to ensure a secure working environment during construction and maintenance.

  5. Hands-On Experience with Installing Tree Hardware: Acquire practical skills in using specialty tools for installing tree hardware, including anchors and supports.

  6. Structural Framing Techniques: Learn essential framing techniques that ensure the stability and durability of treehouses, adapting to the unique challenges of building in trees.

  7. Rigging Skills: Master rigging techniques for safely lifting and positioning materials during construction, ensuring both safety and efficiency.

  8. Aerial Building Techniques: Develop skills in working at height, including the use of a harness and climbing gear to safely navigate building  elevated structures.

  9. Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Apply creative problem-solving skills to overcome challenges specific to building in trees, fostering adaptability and innovation.
